Kemal Can
Born in 1962 in Istanbul, Kemal Can entered the İstanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1981. He became a Research Assistant in 1988, Assistant Professor in 1992, Associate Professor in 2000 and Professor in 2006.
In 1997, he held a Fellowship at the Middle East Center of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 2004-2005 he was a Visiting Educator at San Diego State University, where he lectured, conducted research, organized workshops and conferences at other universities and related institutions in Philadelphia in different years.
Kemal Can, who has received national and international awards, has opened exhibitions, participated in group exhibitions, made performances, organized and directed workshops in Türkiye and abroad on caricature, illustration, Fiber Art and “Fiber Art in Natural Environment” and “Fiber Art in Artificial Environment”, which he developed and named as a new form of discourse. He has works in museums and private collections. Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, Italy, Bulgaria, the United States, South Korea, Poland, Slovenia, China, Kosovo, Norway, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Finland are among the countries where he has exhibited his works.
Kemal Can, who performs his fiber art works with his own original “Beliz technique” and “Kayra technique”, is currently working as the Head of the Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Fine Arts, and continues his academic activities on art and design at home and abroad, and continues his studies on art and design.
